Hackett & O'Brien High Schools
Class of 1970

Welcome Classmates

This web site was created and continues to be updated for Hackett and O'Brien Class of 1970

We will continue to do our best to bring you information on upcoming events, not only as a class but for our individual classmates as well.

If you have updates, for yourself or for any member of our class please send them to and they will get posted usually the same day.

We hope you enjoy the information our site and that you will share it with other classmates who you know may not have registered with us yet.

The Class of 1970 regretably informs its Obrien HIgh School members of the passing of popular teacher Lois Hofmeister. She prepared as many as she could for the future with her knowledge, wit and charm.

The link above is to her obituary.

Linda and Pali Matyas

When it rains it pours.

Sue Dyke, wife of Tom Dyke, passed away January 29th at her daughters home in New Jersey, Sue graduated from Comstock High School and had been dealing with health issues for some time. Tom and Sue had one child, being the daughter in New Jersey. They lived in the Grand Rapids area for most of their married lives before a recent relocation to New Jersey.

Tom Dyke passed away just a few months ago.

Sometimes its hard to tell whether its raining or is tears.

Class of 1970 Reunion Gang of 10.

Hi all,

The Hackett-Obrien Class of 1970 reunion committee is planning the 51st Class reunion (formerly known as the 50th Class reunion) however we seem to be dealing with this COVID thing that is going around.

Before we get too far along, we are asking for classmate input on when you would like to have the reunion given the COVID thing and the available time of the year. Below are a few possible times we might be able to hold the reunion. Please select a first and second choice as your preference to hold the event and respond back to Paul and Linda Matyas at or call or text at 269-365-8084 (please leave a message) as soon as you can. We really appreciate your input.

1. August 21, 2021 (this is our current date scheduled for the reunion

2 .October 2021

3. Mid May 2022

4. August 2022

Thankx again.

Gang of 10 reunion committee

Additional Request!

We would appreciate it if you could update your profile and keep us up to date on how you are doing - are you retired, still working for corporate America....moved,, get the picture.

Our Class website has been a great way to connect many of us, over the last few years. We do our best to keep the website up to date and as relative as possible and we enjoy doing it.

So, when you have a few minutes please update your profile, and so inclined, please add a story or two; I am sure we all have one or many.

Let us know how we can improve the web site and trust that we will hear you and do our best to make it happen.

Our Fifty Year Reunion is coming in 2020 - seems far away but it isn't, like it or not....So, we would love to make sure we have all your current information, at least the best way to contact you, which is usually your email. It would also be most helpful to get your input on what would make Reunion 50 a grand affair that would definitely make it worth your while to join us - we can't guarantee we can meet every request but will do our level best to make it happen.

Though over 60% of our Class has registered on our website there are many who have not - maybe that is simply because they choose not to but maybe it is simply they either are not aware or haven't been asked. If you know someone not yet registered reach out to them and encourage them to register - it is not difficult and we don't share their information in any way - it is all about the Class of 70 - that's it.

We have connected many, over the last ten years, and would enjoy connecting virtually everyone. So, please update, share, and encourage; it will be appreciated.

We hope you all have an outstanding 2019 and we hope you will keep in touch and enjoy the website.

Better Late Than Never....

Reunion Photos Right Now and Videos Coming Soon!

Well, thanks to Deb Vorick and Terri Wischerath helping share some of the great times we enjoyed, both Friday evening at St. Ambrose Parish Hall and Saturday evening at Lake Doster Country Club. There are more photos to be launched soon as well as videos (your going to love the videos) - so watch for an update soon. Till then each of you, especially those in the photos, have the opportunity to fill in the blanks on each image, so have at it and keep it midly clean!
