Hackett & O'Brien High Schools
Class of 1970

Welcome Classmates

This web site was created and continues to be updated for Hackett and O'Brien Class of 1970

We will continue to do our best to bring you information on upcoming events, not only as a class but for our individual classmates as well.

If you have updates, for yourself or for any member of our class please send them to and they will get posted usually the same day.

We hope you enjoy the information our site and that you will share it with other classmates who you know may not have registered with us yet.

Passed away November 30, 2021 at Medilodge Kalamazoo. Mrs. Locey was born March 21, 1926 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Franklin and Mary Abbott. Ruth was a lifelong resident of Kalamazoo; she was a member of St. Joseph Church and a graduate of St. Augustine High School. She is survived by her son Paul Locey, daughters Kathleen Strobel and Sheila Locey, grandchildren Michelle and Nicole Locey and Jeremy Bloomquist and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Neil, two sons John and Richard, a grandson Eric Cashen, a granddaughter, Christina Cashen, brothers Frank, Robert, Leo, James and Jack, sisters Gloria and Harriet. Ruth worked in the swimming pool equipment business for years and spoke fondly of the many longtime customers. Her favorite hobby was gardening and she enjoyed sharing the vegetables and flowers with friends. Ruth's wishes were to be cremated. A private interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

The Gang of 10 regrets to inform the Class of 1970 that Vic Cekola died at 8:30 pm Sunday from COVID. This is especially difficult for the Gang of 10 as Vic was very instrumental in putting together the class reunions and helping to keep the Class of 1970 in communication with each other.
Three of Vic's kids were with him when he died. He received his last rites at 4:30 pm and was able to zoom the ceremony to the rest of the family. Vic was not vaccinated as he held strong objections to the use of stem cells as part of the vaccination.
Patty Russell will let us know what the funeral arrangements will be and we will be sure to pass them along to you.

Additional Request!

We would appreciate it if you could update your profile and keep us up to date on how you are doing - are you retired, still working for corporate America....moved,, get the picture.

Our Class website has been a great way to connect many of us, over the last few years. We do our best to keep the website up to date and as relative as possible and we enjoy doing it.

So, when you have a few minutes please update your profile, and so inclined, please add a story or two; I am sure we all have one or many.

Let us know how we can improve the web site and trust that we will hear you and do our best to make it happen.

Our Fifty Year Reunion is coming in 2020 - seems far away but it isn't, like it or not....So, we would love to make sure we have all your current information, at least the best way to contact you, which is usually your email. It would also be most helpful to get your input on what would make Reunion 50 a grand affair that would definitely make it worth your while to join us - we can't guarantee we can meet every request but will do our level best to make it happen.

Though over 60% of our Class has registered on our website there are many who have not - maybe that is simply because they choose not to but maybe it is simply they either are not aware or haven't been asked. If you know someone not yet registered reach out to them and encourage them to register - it is not difficult and we don't share their information in any way - it is all about the Class of 70 - that's it.

We have connected many, over the last ten years, and would enjoy connecting virtually everyone. So, please update, share, and encourage; it will be appreciated.

We hope you all have an outstanding 2019 and we hope you will keep in touch and enjoy the website.

Better Late Than Never....

Reunion Photos Right Now and Videos Coming Soon!

Well, thanks to Deb Vorick and Terri Wischerath helping share some of the great times we enjoyed, both Friday evening at St. Ambrose Parish Hall and Saturday evening at Lake Doster Country Club. There are more photos to be launched soon as well as videos (your going to love the videos) - so watch for an update soon. Till then each of you, especially those in the photos, have the opportunity to fill in the blanks on each image, so have at it and keep it midly clean!
